I did not know what a dysregulated nervous system was until my body made it impossible to ignore..
I was sleeping seven to eight hours a night but waking up exhausted. I would startle at small sounds. My digestion was unpredictable. I felt either wired and restless or completely flat, with very little in between. I assumed I was just stressed, but stress did not fully explain it.

Dysregulation happens when this switching mechanism breaks down. Your nervous system gets stuck in a high-alert state even when there is no real threat present. Or it swings unpredictably between extremes, leaving you feeling chaotic and exhausted at the same time.
Chronic stress, poor sleep, childhood experiences, and even gut imbalances can all contribute to this state. The good news is that the nervous system is highly adaptable. With the right inputs, it can learn to regulate itself again.
